Oregons bag law and how I know cooperate

 greed is the problem. I just went to Safeway, did not want a bag, was not even asked if I wanted one but was charged .10 for a paper bag. The ridiculous law says the bags must be reusable and that you can charge .05. Paper is not reusable. This one went right into recycling, something I also pay for.  

Of course the store is going to charge as much as it can while paying as little as it can. So safeway buys cheap paper bags and sells them for as much as they can to people who don't even want them and can't do anything about it once it is charged.

Greed, it's a thing.

Lent challenge

 I am always joking about what I am giving up for Lent but never do. I mean what kind of sacrifice is it to give up coffee. But this year, on Ash Wed. in fact, I decided I would challenge myself to give up saying all the snarky things I say to and about other people. If I could do that it would be something. On Sunday the priest said Lent is not about giving up something but about getting back on track and getting to where you want to go. And so, this is the perfect challenge for me. FYI, I have failed multiple times already. 40 days is just way to long to be good.

In the news

 I heard a news story about a school that was not allowing students to participate in year end activities if all their fees had not been paid. This is not an unusual stance, I've heard it before. It is not right that the children are punished for something they have no control over and the fees still won't be paid/ But, what struck me the most is a parent who said 'this is just showing them that if they don't have money they don't get things'. Um duh. If you don't work and earn money and save for things you want you don't get them. And you shouldn't. What happened to the Americans who worked and expected nothing from anyone. Where did all those people go?
