Snow Day

The snow started yesterday afternoon. We probably have 4 or 5 inches by now. Still suppossed to snow tonight. Bill had today off for his BD and school was cancelled. Didn't do much. It is pretty but very cold. Hank won't go play in the snow because he doesn't want to wear shoes. He is such an odd kid.
We are, as always, behind in school. He has many other important things to do. His vocab. is good for his age. And he is learning to do things on the computer so I suppose it is ok to take time off from actual school type education. He really does not want to go to public school.
I have finished 3 books alread in Feb. No motivation to do much else. Only read the books because they were due at the lib. and could not be renewed.
Now I want to make hats and gloves because it is so cold and I am sure we do not have enough.

Lent challenge

 I am always joking about what I am giving up for Lent but never do. I mean what kind of sacrifice is it to give up coffee. But this year, on Ash Wed. in fact, I decided I would challenge myself to give up saying all the snarky things I say to and about other people. If I could do that it would be something. On Sunday the priest said Lent is not about giving up something but about getting back on track and getting to where you want to go. And so, this is the perfect challenge for me. FYI, I have failed multiple times already. 40 days is just way to long to be good.

In the news

 I heard a news story about a school that was not allowing students to participate in year end activities if all their fees had not been paid. This is not an unusual stance, I've heard it before. It is not right that the children are punished for something they have no control over and the fees still won't be paid/ But, what struck me the most is a parent who said 'this is just showing them that if they don't have money they don't get things'. Um duh. If you don't work and earn money and save for things you want you don't get them. And you shouldn't. What happened to the Americans who worked and expected nothing from anyone. Where did all those people go?
