Log Cabin

This year I will be knitting log cabin afghans. I started one and ripped it out because it was not laying flat.  Must have used the wrong weight of yarn. Now it has been re knit and seems to be working better. I am doing a blue and green one and one that is pinks and purples. All left over worsted weight yarn. It's gonna take awhile.
And I am going to knit hats and other small things. Started and Irish Hiking Hat.
Tom. we will start school again. We have had a long break, maybe too long. A few days of review will be helpful. He wants to learn to cook and paint and make video games. He is not thrilled to learn he still has to do math and reading.

Lent challenge

 I am always joking about what I am giving up for Lent but never do. I mean what kind of sacrifice is it to give up coffee. But this year, on Ash Wed. in fact, I decided I would challenge myself to give up saying all the snarky things I say to and about other people. If I could do that it would be something. On Sunday the priest said Lent is not about giving up something but about getting back on track and getting to where you want to go. And so, this is the perfect challenge for me. FYI, I have failed multiple times already. 40 days is just way to long to be good.

In the news

 I heard a news story about a school that was not allowing students to participate in year end activities if all their fees had not been paid. This is not an unusual stance, I've heard it before. It is not right that the children are punished for something they have no control over and the fees still won't be paid/ But, what struck me the most is a parent who said 'this is just showing them that if they don't have money they don't get things'. Um duh. If you don't work and earn money and save for things you want you don't get them. And you shouldn't. What happened to the Americans who worked and expected nothing from anyone. Where did all those people go?
